Freelance Horticultural Therapist (Contracted position may be offered at a later date if required).

Responsible to : Dig ‘n’ Grow Co-ordinator

Hours: Service delivery: 15 hours per week over 2 days

Salary: £11.00 per hour

Location: Dig ‘n’ Grow - Witney (Bromag Industrial Estate).

We support all service users attending the Dig ‘n’ Grow Horticultural Therapy project using a person centred approach.

Job purpose:

To work with all service users attending the Dig ‘n’ Grow Horticultural Therapy project using a person centred approach. To use horticulture and other related knowledge to provide support for individuals. To assist with the facilities management and general organisation of the project and the delivery of the Horticultural Therapy programme.

Principal responsibilities:

  • Development of the design and implementation of the Dig ‘n’ Grow Horticultural Therapy programme tailored to meet individual need.
  • Participate in the delivery and development of individually tailored programmes of activities directly linked to support plans and agreed personal goals.
  • Assess and respond to the needs and wishes of the people who attend the service.
  • Produce and maintain high quality documentation.
  • Supporting service users to maintain good physical and emotional wellbeing through support planning and achieving self-determined outcomes.
  • Providing a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for service users, families, carers and volunteers.
  • Liaising with other agencies/multidisciplinary working.
  • Driving the project minibus.
  • Assisting with the maintaining of tools and other equipment appropriately to meet the needs of the project.
  • Administering emergency first aid as required.
  • Working in accordance with all Guideposts Trust policies and procedures.
  • Completing necessary paperwork to agreed Guideposts Trust procedures.
  • Promoting the use of Social and Therapeutic Horticulture as a tool and Guideposts Trust full range of services to other projects, community groups, voluntary organisations and the statutory services.
  • On occasions, assisting with promotional displays, open days and special events on and off site.
  • Undertaking such other duties as may be required from time to time by the Dig ‘n’ Grow Co-ordinator.
  • Work cooperatively with all staff, contributing to team development.
  • Ensure a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for all individuals attending the service
  • Flag safeguarding or other concerns to the relevant people/authorities within the required timeframe.

The Horticultural Therapist will be expected to work alongside the Dig ‘n’ Grow co-ordinator by carrying out a range of duties to meet the aims and objectives of the Dig ‘n’ Grow project within the overall context of Guideposts Trust aims. The Horticultural Therapist may be required, with appropriate training where necessary to undertake any of the duties listed.

This job description is not exhaustive, but is provided to assist the post holder to know and understand the main duties of their role. It may be amended from time to time in discussion with the post holder.
