GLADS Day Service

Guideposts Learning Activity Day Service (GLADS)

GLADS offers a range of social and skill-based activities for adults with learning disabilities, mobility impairments and other conditions. Alongside cooking, fitness, craft and music, we go on trips in the local area.

Current Status: GLADS are welcoming new members, please contact us today.

Who can we support?

We currently support individuals with learning disabilities and mobility impairments, working with variable staff ratios depending on the needs of each person, to enable all to take part.

Our experienced staff can also work with speech, hearing and sight difficulties, are trained in managing challenging behaviour and can de-escalate people showing signs of anxiety and stress.

Why should I join?

At GLADS you are integral to the group, helping to decide which activities take place. We aim to make an inclusive, fun and friendly environment for you to thrive in. We will help you to realise your potential, build confidence, and develop supportive social networks, helping you to feel valued and included in your community.

How GLADS works

Guideposts Learning Activity Day Service (GLADS) runs Monday-Friday from 10am to 3.30pm, and we operate full or half day sessions. We run a minibus service to take members to and from their home – so please ask us if you need help with transport.

There is a menu of opportunities and activities members can choose from to ensure their weekdays are busy, enjoyable and productive.

What activities are on offer?

Everyone who uses the service has a say in what activities are planned, and we have access to a minibus to help us get out and about so there are plenty of options.

Our activities can include:

  • Sports, fitness and dance
  • Music and singing
  • Art and crafts
  • Photography
  • Supported IT use
  • Working towards independent living: shopping, cooking, money management, safe use of public transport
  • Gardening at Paradise Fields, Guideposts’ outdoor gardening site
  • Outings and trips to various local places of interest (e.g. Blenheim Palace, Millets Farm, Bourton-on-the-Water)

“On (John’s) behalf, I can tell you that he loves coming to GLADS. He feels relaxed, happy and has gained so much confidence. He is able to make appropriate choices and knows which activities he enjoys, like sport, music, games and socialising within the group. He also loves going out and about.”

“I really like it here. Not too many people and not too noisy. Enough for me to enjoy being with other people away from home and doing different things”

“This is the best quality care my son has ever received. Thank you to all the staff at GLADS for doing such a wonderful job over the years!”

How to join?

Please get in touch if you’re interested in coming to GLADS, or if you’d like to ask any questions. You can either sign up for yourself or make a referral for someone else.

We’ll get back in touch within 3 working days to arrange a time to meet or talk on the phone, and you may be able to come and see a session in action to get a taster of what we do and meet the team. If we decide together that GLADS would be the right service for you, we’ll then work with you on a support plan, and set some goals to make the most of your time with us.

Can you Help?

We are seeking volunteer drivers to take people to this service. If you have a few hours available each week, and would like to help someone improve the quality of their life, please get in touch.
